The Best Advice I’ve Ever Recieved

Sometimes advice is uncalled for. And it makes you want to tell someone exactly where they can shove said advice. But these little gems are the bits of advice that have stayed with me- enjoy….

  1. Double cleanse the skin. Once to remove all the makeup, and the second time to clean the skin before moisturising.
  2. When accessorizing always take off the last thing you put on. I believe that this is from Coco Chanel, Queen of Minimal. I like minimal. For example, if I have a necklace and earrings, I will take one of these off.
  3. Cook the skin of the fish under the grill, to make it crispy (Jamie Oliver). You miss out on so much flavour if you don’t.
  4. Exercise should be enjoyable. Find the types of workouts YOU love, and don’t let trends influence you. If you love Pilates, but hate lifting, then you know what to do.
  5. NEVER open the oven door until at least half way through the cooking time, unless you want the cake to sink. When it’s cooked it should spring back when you touch the top lightly (Mum) .
  6. Release your inner “Mean Girl” when you smile for applying blusher. Smile in the snide, bitchy way that Regina George does, and lightly apply blush where the apples of the cheeks end up, and along the cheekbones. This gives a much better result for some reason.
  7. You can’t out-train a bad diet. I firmly believe a great body (inside and out) begins in the kitchen. You can do as many deadlifts as you like: eating fast food every other day will undo it all.
  8. Keep a food and exercise diary.
  9. The most important relationship you will ever have is with yourself. I struggle with it every day. Most of us do. But we have to live with ourselves our entire lives, so you need to develop a certain kind of respect in this relationship.
  10. You don’t owe anyone perfect.
  11. Take “me time” everyday, and do something you truly enjoy.
  12. Focus on actions, not outcomes.
  13. You never know what people are going through in private- so be nice. It doesn’t cost you anything.
  14. Think about what you can add to your diet, not what you can take away. A healthy diet needs to contain a wide variety of foods. Don’t tell yourself you cant have fats; add avocado to salad instead and reap the benefits. Don’t ban chocolate; switch to dark and add some antioxidants into your diet.
  15. By the time you feel thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Prevents headaches, dry skin, faux-hunger, and tiredness- all of these things are symptoms of dehydration.
  16. Make your lipstick last longer by putting on one coat, then placing a tissue lightly over the top. Blot the top of the tissue with a powder brush dipped in loose power. It removes the oils that cause lipstick to bleed. Apply one more coat of lipstick and you’re good to go (Michelle Phan)
  17. Focus on your breathing to bring you into the present.
  18. Turn the shower on to cold for the last few seconds. It is absolute torture, but it boosts the metabolism, wakes you up, and makes your hair shinier.
  19. If it matters to you, then go after it with everything you have.
